So! Today was my first day in a kindergarten classroom interning. I was going to post a picture of my outfit because I thought it was cute, but it was 7:15 in the morning ( not a morning person), plus I was already running late as usual packing a lunch at the last minute because I didn’t have time to run to the grocery store. Maybe tomorrow. My supervising teacher is very laid back, and I really liked her. She was disappointed to know that I will only be with the class 2 days a week. She is going to grad school as well as managing 3/4 of her own children at home. So I don’t have to be there until 7:45-8, which is WONDERFUL. And I get to leave probably around 3-3:30. My COORDINATORS at UCF were persistent on reminding us…don’t be the first teacher out of the lot. However, this is kindergarten and contrary to my belief, you really don’t do a lot of intense school work through out the day. It really is more of transitioning. So I don’t feel like explaining the whole day which I could easily do, but damnit, I am SO TIRED. So I will give snippets.
One of the children tripped me, causing me to step on another girls fingers- while I was in heels.
Another kid SPIT on one of the girls.
And the same kid who tripped me asked what the word “whore” meant; while we were studying the word four. I just completely avoided the subject and said “the number four…
OH KINDERGARTENERS! AND TITLE 1 SCHOOLS!
Overall a fun, tiring, interesting, long, first day. Can’t wait till tomorrow.
